Round Up of TASP

Our keynote speaker

Mini Wegmans

Look I'm on the sign in the same sentence as Fraser Brown and Michael Patte!

Making dens

Zan at play! :)

It was fun at the museum with the TASP conference. Wish it wasn't so jam packed so we could have had more time to explore. The presentation went really well and were very successful. Lots of people came and they clapped and said nice things. :) Yay! :)

Tonight I have to pack, and tomorrow I'll be on my way back home! :)

As promised...

Wow, i'm tired. More tomorrow.

Presentation, here I go! :)

Conference and Cereal

The TASP conference kick started this morning with lots of very clever, very academic people. It was quite a heavy day and hurt my head a lot.

Our presentation is tomorrow! Eeee!

On a completely different topic, here's an absolutely hilarious product:

Oh wow, it won't load for me. I'll save it for tomorrow :)

Working on Play

What happens when a load of Pop-Up Adventure Play co-workers get together?

We get our laptops out! :)

We're working hard on getting play to work in the US. It involves a lot of computering, theorising, exploring, and for the bulk of the time, laughing. We're doing work, honest! :)

TASP conference starts tomorrow, bring it on! :)

I've been super busy so I haven't had chance to post anything. Few things to tell you though:

1) It's warm today. Really warm.

2) It's nearly time to come home.

3) The TASP conference begins today. Eeee!

A Belated Happy Easter! :)

Yay! It's Easter! It's good news for all and a mini break for me. I decided to do absolutely nothing and it was awesome. I would like to say that I was amused at just how many "Christ is Risen" songs you can fit into one service. I managed to get 6 different renditions. Very exciting stuff. Didn't have any Easter eggs which makes me kinda sad, but apparently in the US you get Easter baskets. Yes, a whole basket of sugar, not just a hollow chocolate shaped egg in a box. I knew I liked it here for a reason :)

Mushy Minds and Lush Logos.

I have to stop collecting all my meetings into one day. It kinda makes my mind just turn into a mash potato consistency when I have more than 2 hours of meeting a day. Eeee. It was good, constructive meeting though, and I think that I will have some real work to do whilst I'm back in the UK next year. I'm pretty excited! :)

Today's very interesting thing is super cool. You ready for it? The new Pop-Up Adventure Play Logo!!! Woooo! :) Wanna see? I think you do :) Here it is! :)

Isn't it awesome? :D I love it! :) It will have some more tweaks yet, like we'll get a colour version, and get one that is just the words, and another with just the picture. But as it stands, it's awesome. We finally have an identity. And that identity is cool! :)

Thunder and Lightning

I experienced my first US stormy night. I don't have a picture to show you but it was madness! The thunder cracked so loudly that I was convinced that it was right next to my head, shaking the whole house. And then the lightning was so bright that it literally lit up the room for like a couple of seconds, despite it being the middle of the night. It woke me up from a dead sleep and then every time I was almost asleep again it scared the life out of me again. It was amazing and scary all at the same time. People here should consider having brick houses so that thunder doesn't move the house! Wow.

Today I saw a multi-colour forest, word search wrapping paper, and little purple people ear rings.

Oh, and it snowed today. Ha.

Turns out I was a lot more stressed out about the Rhythm and Play event than I thought I would be and I'm exhausted and slightly ill. So I've taken the day off to do nothing and it was awesome. More work tomorrow! :)

Rhythm and Play!

It was wonderful. Ed and I worked with 17 children and 14 parents today in the first ever Rhythm and Play event between Rhythm Connect and Pop-Up Adventure Play. We had loads of fun with drums and then loads of fun with tubes and boxes! It was a fantastic morning and everyone left happy.

Here are three pictures that I think summarise the day:

I was nervous to begin with because I wasn't sure what was going to happen, but in the end it all worked out. Children played freely with parents and they made extraordinary things that I didn't think could be possible. Play is awesome.

Big Bean!

No it's not a snake, this it's actually some sort of pod that has seeds in it which I found on my wanderings. It looks like a giant bean and when I shake it it rattles inside and it's really quite cool. It looks like it's made of plastic for some reason because it's shiney dark brown finish looks makes it look like it's got a coating of spray or something. I might try and bring it home, it's really quite  awesome :)

I've been doing lots of mental preparation for my play event on Saturday. I've found lots of cool things from lots of nice local businesses but that's all the practical stuff. My mental preparation involves me sitting down and working out what I want to say and how I say it to the parents I meet. I'll be on my own representing Pop-Up Adventure Play, and although I have help, I'm the only playworker there, so I hope I do a good job!

Relaxing and meetings tomorrow so it's time to do some condensing and packing ready for the big day now. Wooo! :)

Sticks for Smores....

Specifically for Smores I'll have you know. Made in the USA. Only things like this are made in the USA. What's wrong with a skewer? How risky can it get just to find a stick?! Honestly! I'm going to make people think twice when I do my first fire in the States! With children! RAH! :)

Free Awesomeness! :)

I'm preparing for my Rhythm and Play event by going around to different businesses on the community and asking for junk and guess what I got?

I got them from the Violin and Cello Store - apparently the strings to make the instruments are delivered in these tubes! I was sooo excited! Some of them are bigger than me! :) The children are going to be sooo excited! :) What a find! :)

Nice and Warm :)

It's been a lovely weekend. I've been warm and happy and just appreciating the sunshine :) It's like the weather we get in the UK on a good day! :) Haven't really taken any photos which is a bit sad, but there's more sun to come so I don't mind! :)

In other news, some congratulations are in order. For some nice people. Who have been waiting a long time for this. It's gonna be a good September :)

Sunshine! :)

I've been working very hard! So hard that I forgot to post last night on the blog! It was a bit miserable outside yesterday so there wasn't much to take a picture of anyway.

Today however, it was really sunny so I decided to take my work outside! It made me very happy. It should be sunny all the time! :)

Must Read More! :)

I've decided that I have to read more. Here are the two books I'm working on:
Fantastically easy to read book actually. I'd recommend it to anyone who's curious about my field and wants to know more! :)

And this man wants children to go outside! And they should! :)

Mentioned! :)

I've been mentioned in my Pop-Up Adventure Play supervisor's blog! :D It's made me very happy! :) Especially to know that I'm a good hider and a good player! :) Yay for blogs and yay for hide and seek! :)

It's here! :)

It's here. I think Spring is finally here. Yay! :) I'm so excited about being warm! I even went outside with no coat on today! Woooo! :) Welcome welcome! :)

Spring Time TBD

I think it's here, but I'm not openly declaring it yet in case it snows again. So watch this space for signs of Spring! :)

Friday, 1 April 2011

It's raining outside and I've just had a 3.5hr meeting so my brain is completely fried. It seems like a bit of a miserable day, but actually it was very constructive. When brains get together, magic happens. But only every so often. I think meetings reach a plateau before they become inefficient. And they have to be quite strictly monitored. Otherwise you can get stuck in those looping conversations where there is no end.

No idea what I'm talking about any more. Zan out! :)
