Paper Making

I decided to try my hand at paper making and I think it's been relatively successful! :)

Here are my first two sheets of paper, which are currently drying in the kitchen. I'm going to wait to see what they're like when they're dry and make some more tomorrow! :)

It was quite a lot of fun actually! :) I might try a different colour next time! :) Yay! :)

My New Little Friends!

I've spent a couple of weeks, since my visit to the Eco Home, thinking about what I could do to be a little more Green at home. The inspiration came when we received another recycling bin at home and the leaflet that came with it suggested we try out alternative forms of recycling like getting a wormery. It looked like loads of fun, and the one at the Eco Home seemed pretty easy to maintain. So then I spent about an hour convincing my mother it would a good idea (she still isn't convinced) and then I ordered my mini wormery!

That was Monday, and today it arrived! I was sooo excited! :)

Slightly sleepy but excited Zan! Ready to assemble my Wormery! :)

Things I was sent to make the wormery.

And the stars themselves - a bag full of wriggly worms! And some soil.

I fixed on the tap at the bottom - this will be for tapping off plant feed every few weeks which we can use to feed our plants at home.

Assembling the inside - a platform then a sheet of newspaper.

Peat, then some moist newspaper, then the wormies!

Now a couple of handfuls of kitchen waste - on the menu today, breadcrumbs, carrots, some lettuce, onion/garlic peel and a teabag!

Lid on, spoon at the ready, the wormery is complete! :) Yay! :)

My new little friends are currently living in the garage because it's so warm this week. When it gets cooler again, I'll put them outside in the garden. I have to leave them to get to know their bucket for a week before I can start feeding them more regularly, but in 8 weeks time, I'll have plant feed, and then shortly after that, compost! How cool is that? :D Yay for worms, and yay for green living! :)

It's Purple!

I have a brand new toy, and I'm serious it's a toy! :)

It's a badgemaker toy! And it's purple! And it's awesome! :)

I've made a few prototypes, and they're AWESOME! A whole selection of crazy handmade gifts are about to explode into the world.

I'm so excited! :)

Things I Saw Today :)

Some train tracks.

A happy star in a window.

A space invader! :)

My brother and I went conker picking today! And we got loads!

For those of you who don't know what conkers are, they are officially called Horse Chestnuts, and are inedible to humans, but possibly edible to horses? As kids, we used to have conker competitions. We'd spend weeks finding, prepping, and then drilling a hole through our prized conker to thread a shoelace through it. Then we would compete with other fanatics to see who's conker was the hardest, biggest and finest. None of this pokemon business when I were a wee lass!

As a bigger and infinitely crazy lass, I just like the look and feel of conkers. They have a glossy and smooth coat, with patterns on it that look like rings of bark on a tree. They come in all shapes and sizes, from trees that are very recognisable. I like how they are like shiney orbs of discovery. You find the spikey shell that's fallen from the tree, and inside you get this magical brown object which, even if you didn't subject it to competitions, were triumphant in their own way.

I might have to save my conker hoard for my pet project that I should be starting in January... stay tuned! :)

Our Old Abode

Every now and again, when I'm feeling curious and nostalgic, I will drive by my old house to say hello to it and to see how much everything's changed. Today was one of those days, and I paused outside to take a quick snap while it was quiet:

Essentially the house hasn't changed. The extension above the garage is still there but they've taken away the front porch. It's a little untidy, but that's really it.

Taking the time to look at the local area, I realised just how small the street was. We moved out of this house when I was about 14 and I remember thinking that the house and it's street were really big. Maybe it's just the scale of things when you're a child: everything seems so much bigger. Or maybe it's just the rose tinted memories with sepia faded edges that all of my childhood memories seem to have. I've no idea.

But the house is still there, and it made me smile. A good chunk of Zan funness happened in this residence - I hope other people are making memories in there now. :)

Expedition through the Realms of Zan's Room

It's been a few weeks since I've been back from the States and instead of unpacking, I just allowed my suitcase to explode inside my room. This morning, I decided that it was time rediscover the floor of my bedroom and do some deep-mess-diving.

A few hours in, and I reckon my room looks a lot better now - I have a clean and walkable floor now, and it turns out I've always had a desk tidy on the cupboard behind the desk, but I didn't know until today. The recycling man should be happy cos I've just been getting rid of paper today. Who would have thunk that I'd accumulate so much! :)

Having done the bulk of my tidying, I decided to go for a special task as a reward. Over the years, I have sent and have been sent a lot of post, and I've kept them all packed tidily away. The box has been getting a bit full though, so I went through it to take out any unnecessary envelopes and junk mail, and became happily reunited with some really awesome post:

The two part postcard featuring dog with floppy ears blowing in the breeze was sent to me by my awesome friend Lee. The banana postcard is from my lovely friend Jenny, and the flowery envelop was made and sent by my creative friend Ric! How awesome are they?!

Anyway, I guess that's been it for the day. Just tidying and tying up loose ends. And recycling. I was still in my sleepy clothes until 7:30 and then had to nip across to visit the neighbour so I grudgingly changed. I like pyjama day. It always feels so constructive eventhough you've really done nothing at all. :)

To Leeds and To London!

It's been a very long day. It was my induction day at uni so I woke up ridiculously early to get a bus then a train to Leeds. Then when I came back towards home, I got the train to Manchester Victoria, hiked up to Piccadilly to get a train to Manchester Airport to see my Godfather off to Hong Kong.

A strange rearrangement of luggage and a hug later, we headed back home to complete Chris' packing and then the Law Family waved off the Muis as they embark on their journey to London.

It's been a bit of a crazy day, and I know for Chris and James, it's been an emotional one too. We wish them all the best as they go down south. Hope that they have fun down there, settle down well and enjoy their new jobs. Let's also hope they don't come home with dodgy accents! :)

Old Stuff = Cool Stuff

Okay okay so the equation doesn't always work but it works for old people, old suitcases, old cupboards, tables, chairs, vases, teacups and stamps.

So it's almost always right! :)

Random but Happy Music

So the happy couple have returned from their mini-moon and met up with my Godfather, Clem and I in Manchester for a quick lunch and then a little wander. It was purely by coincidence did we stumble across some live Jazz music in the Royal Exchange. It was so much fun and there were people dressed in period clothing having a little dance too. It was all very happy :)

After bobbing merrily away to this music, we parted company for a while and the Godfather, Clem and I went to the Trafford Centre for a quick wander. Purely by coincidence we happened to arrive at Old-People-Dancing-Time! It was so cute seeing them all in little lines dancing away to more live music and it was just really cool. And happy! :)

It was a little bit of a random day but it was good fun! :) Don't think I've ever accidently seen so much live music before in Manchester! :) It made me very happy :D

Antique Hunting

My Dad and I went on a mini adventure to Lancaster today to wander around GB Antiques Centre. I have to say that this place is huge and the stuff was pretty affordable. I took some sneaky pictures...

I bought a couple of novelty things that I thought were pretty cool. I think I could do all my Christmas shopping at antique places. I had a lot of fun feeling young in a huge building full of old, dusty stuff! My Godfather is in town next week so I bet I'll be going to more antique places! Hoorah! :)

The remaining members of my family and I decided to go for a quick ramble whilst my sister was on her mini-moon and my dad had taken some time off work. With Uncle happy absorbing fresh air from the safety of the car, we went to explore some hills:

Clem finds a rock.

We all find another rambler

Zan find hills! :)

It was a nice break away from the house. Nice to see some good ol' Lancashire hills :)

Tea and Cake

Clem and I have been unashamably drinking tea and eating wedding cake over the last couple of days. It's been very therapeutic and relaxing - exactly what I needed! Cake goes sooo well with cake. Hmm..... nom nom nom! Anyway, this is a short post. Nothing much happening except that I made some Pop-Up Adventure Play all purpose greeting cards. Watch this space for pics :)

Mr and Mrs James Mui

Hoorah! What a lovely day! The bride was lovely, the groom looked great, the weather held out and I didn't fall out of my dress! How much better could it be?

I did work out one draw back of being the bridemaid - the dress doesn't accessorise very well with a humongous camera. As a result, I have a grand total of 3 photos from the day, and they are all of my sister before she left the house. This is a nice picture though. :)

Mr and Mrs Mui are now on their way to Rome on their mini-moon, and all I can say is that I hope they enjoy their little trip, look after eachother, and enjoy their adventure ahead. Hoorah for Chris and James! Be good and eat lots (all the time - screw diets!). Never go to bed angry and never let a day go by without telling eachother how much you mean to one another. You are both very blessed to have eachother.

And hoorah to everyone to helped out! Let me try and list all these people. In no particular order...

Clem for being awesome awesome, Harry for being tall and awesome, Anthony for being cool and awesome, Pippa for being beautiful and awesome, Milan for being beautiful and awesome and the best late night working buddy I've ever had, Becky for being beautiful and awesome too, Mrs Wong for helping my mum and keeping her sane, Mrs Tsang for coming from so far away to keep my mum sane and doing the tea ceremony and just being lovely, Mrs So for being ever so efficient, Mr So for being hilarious, Angel for helping to keep me sane, Elibe for helping mum with the flowers and talking to my uncle forever, Fiona Chan for being Fiona Chan, Fiona Thompson for being there even if it's just in spirit, Damon for coming from afar and being the background star as usual, Damon's Jenny for being awake and helpful and nice, Martin for having the best piano fingers in the world, Lisa for being awesome in so many different ways, Andy for being Andy so well, Janina for fighting with the hotel for us and winning, Shyen Wei for being Shyen Wei, Peter Lee for being able to make it, Patrick for being a wonderful speaker, Helen for her generous heart, Tony for his muscles, Rachel for making stuff look pretty, Rachel's mum for helping out without any of us knowing, Ricky for watching the cars and keeping me sane, Nancy for minding my bag or my flowers or my bag and flowers.... oh and Kit! You too! :)

I didn't mention the people who don't actually know me personally, but those above are the people who I know or have gotten to know whom I truly thank for helping to day yesterday successful. There are plenty of other people who helped out too who I have still to meet and I'm sure I'll love, and I thank you all too! :)You will all be greatly blessed one day :)

Hoorah for everyone! Wooo! :)

It's Tomorrow!

There has been a flurry of activity today at my house! All the preparations for the wedding were done today! It was all very exciting and busy, but in a good way I guess. Lots more people dropped in to say hello today as well, visiting Uncle and just helping out where ever they can. They have been absolutely lovely!

My sister did the traditional Chinese hair combing ceremony today that symbolises a new start and new life as a married person. It was pretty cool since I've only ever seen it on TV, but it was live in my living room. Kinda bizarre really.

All the stuff I need to be maid of honour is ready now. I have my dress (freshly pressed) and my pashmina (freshly ironed) and have also trial run at getting my hair up. I don't know if I'm gonna be any good as a maid of honour, but I'll give it a good go!

Okay, I should finish up what I'm doing and attempt to go to bed. I have to get a couple of winks in at least otherwise I'll end up sleeping through the ceremony! Ha! Tomorrow! :)

Only 2 Days to Go

More preparations were done for the wedding today, and lots of people dropped by to help. It was very nice to see so many friendly faces, and we were grateful for the help, especially my mum since she's currently up to her eyes in flowers.

The bride and groom and their bridesmaids and groomsmen went out for a meal today. It was very nice to see them, to get to know them, and to relax a bit before the wedding. Here's a picture of my sister enjoying her favourite dessert:

I'm pretty tired right now, but there's more things to be done tonight. Tomorrow, I get to take over a church and a hotel - it's going to be awesome! More from me later :)

Lots of Wedding Stuff

It's been a week of just wedding wedding weddings. Yesterday, I know I took a quick break but today it was back to it. Most of the bridemaids have had their dresses fitted and will be ready to pick up on Sunday. The cake has been made, and there's a room in the house that is overflowing with favours, cards, ideas and wedding goodness. The flowers arrived this morning, and without giving too much away, I allowed my camera to get swallowed up in petals...

I've been printing stuff, sticking stuff, poking stuff... it's been a very interesting week! Nearly everything is done now and all we have to do is stick up the decorations, get the flowers in, put on our pretty frocks and turn up to the big day! Wooo! :) Not long to go now! How very exciting! :)

Eco Home Goodness

Today, I took a break from bridal madness to have fun completely unrelated fun with my friends Lee and Dave. They took me to an Eco Home in Miles Platting in Manchester. I never knew there was a house like this in Manchester, but now that I do, I will get everyone to visit! It's pretty awesome! :)

Two houses transformed into one! Hello Eco Houses!

Offset your carbon footprint by putting a garden on your shed - the shed is in stealth mode!

There were lots of insulation ideas, including putting polystyrene (Styrofoam) blobs inbetween your walls.

I had lots of fun with Lee and Dave! Thank you to Lee for taking us, and thank you to Dave for accompanying me! Hehee! :) Back to the prettiness of weddings! Woo! :)

Not long now. How exciting! :)

Last Week, Next Week

This time last week, I was trapped in an airport in New York trying to come home...

This time next week, I will be recovering from very tired feet and getting ready to go to Cardiff!

So today, I'm going to take it easy and have a nothing day! Wooo! :)

The Chris and James Party

Yesterday, we had Christabel and James' pre-wedding, post hag/stag do party. We couldn't decide what to call it so we ended up calling it the Christabel and James Party. They gave us a date and a list of people to invite and then it was the best woman (me) and the man of honour (my brother, Clem)'s job to sort the whole thing out.

The plan was, Chris and James would make themselves scarce in the morning, and then we would cook and decorate to our hearts content. Then they would arrive at home, we'd completely confuse them by diverting their attention, then abduct them with blindfolds, and arrive at the undisclosed venue for their party. It was hilarious.

We then had lots of food before playing some pretty awesome games. Can you guess what this one was about?

I think overall, the party was a complete success! Everyone was well fed, had fun and had a chance to spend some time with Chris and James to celebrate their wedding! There are more hilarious photos here. A big thank you to everyone who came to the party, and managed to keep it mostly a secret for about a month. :) You made this party awesome! :) Yay to Chris and James! And hoorah for parties! :)

The Chris and James Party is tomorrow.

I'm the only one who knows what's happening.

Mwhahahahahaa :)

Hello UK!

I'm back home, safe and sound. Now my sleeping is all messed up and I'm a bit confused about the time. Oh well :)
